Hello All,
It's good to be back. I am sorry that I missed the last two weeks unfortunately my computer was misbehaving. I had it checked / repaired two different times but to be honest I am not feeling too comfortable that all the issues have been resolved. I am, however, "computing" at this moment so lets keep our fingers crossed shall we?
You might think after a two week absence I would have a super thrilling project to share with you but all I have is a silly painted rock.
Really that's it.
And as underwhelming as that might be the truth of the matter is that I had trouble starting this project. I was actually afraid to pint this rock. Now you may think that is completely ridiculous (I know I do) but I really wasn't sure I could paint a rock in a way that I would be happy with. I was afraid that it was going to look like a 1st grade art project.
As it turns out I am satisfied with the result and am going to give myself credit for completing a 6th grade level art project and I really mean that as a complement to 6th graders and myself. Because in all seriousness I think that 6th grade is about the time that art skills peek for most people. After that it is all doubt and fear of "creating" something unworthy. Unworthy of what I don't really know but but somewhere around 6th grade we start thinking that our art is supposed to please someone else and then we spend the next 30 or so years, if we are lucky, relearning that our art is supposed to make us happy and if someone else likes it well that is just a bonus.
And so I humbly present to you my painted rock.
I am not joking when I tell you that I spent more than a few hours google searching "painted rocks" looking for something I thought I might be able to use as inspiration.
In the end I just had to start.
It was a tentative start.
I took it slow and proceeded cautiously.
Then I just decided to go for it.
And I ended up with this. :-)
I added a coat of polycrylic to seal it and hopefully help the paint weather better.
Now all this may have you wondering what the puppy patio business is all about. You may already know that we recently got two new puppies. They are not puppy size any more but they still have all their puppy energy. Anyway our yard has a fenced area for the grass and a flagstone and gravel area for the dogs. And then there was this narrow patch of dirt. We tried to grow grass there but the pups were too hard on it. They did still love to lay in that area whether it was dirt or mud which was not conducive to keeping a clean house and it was quite unsightly in our otherwise pretty yard. We talked about cover it with some flagstone but I just couldn't bring myself to take away the puppy favorite spot to lay in the sun.
And so the idea for the puppy patio was born. We bought a narrow piece of outdoor carpeting, leveled the dirt with some sand and hammered the carpeting into the ground with some 8 inch garden spikes.
The pups love it and I am thrilled to be ride of the mud pit / dust bowl. (Even if my house still isn't clean)
Happy Earth Day
