Have you seen those big metal home decor letters in Hobby Lobby or other stores? I have always thought they were really cool but I don't have anywhere to put them. Of course at Christmas time all that changes.
So I decided to make some of my own letters.
Step 1 - Print or sketch out letters on paper.
Step 2 - Glue templates to corrugated card board and cut out letters.
Step 3 - Cut 1 inch strips of card board from a cracker or cereal box.
Step 4 - Make a center line on each strip.
Step 5 - Use hot glue gun to attach the cardboard strips to the edges of the letters along the center line.
Step 6 - If desired glue letters together. Spray with coat of primer paint.
Step 7 - Spray paint with metallic silver or gold top coat.
Step 8 - Cut a notch in the center back of the letters or group of letters.
Step 9 - For antique metal finish brush a small area with black paint and immediately dab off with a paper towel.
Step 10 - Use hot glue to attach a dowel or stick
My "stick" was a little too flexible so I added more sticks to make it more sturdy and then painted it to match.
Step 11 - Paint tin can with black antique finish.
Step 12 - Spray paint small rocks with gold metallic paint and add them to the can to stabilize the display.
Happy Upcycling,
