Hello,
Thanks for stopping by.
Do you like Starbucks Frappiccino's? Well I do and I have always thought that their bottles have a pretty shape, so I have saved a few.
For this weeks project I set out to make a soap dispenser for our bathroom.
If you have ever removed the label from one of these bottles you will know that the label leaves a very sticky residue on the bottle. The best way I have found to remove this is with a brillo pad and some good old elbow grease.
This label is just used for a template. You could also used tape.
I saw this technique some where out in cyber space sorry I don't remember where but it is a simple application with a Q-tip. It should be noted here that they do make paints specifically for painting on glass but I am using plain old house paint. I am not planning to run this through the dishwasher or scrub the outside of it with anything abrasive.
Once the paint has dried you can remove the template.
For the second paint technique I used a cotton ball to dab on the darker gray color.
I used a dry eraser marker to out line the word soap and then painted over it with the gray paint.
The letters our then outlined with a white marking pen.
For the lid I used one coat of white paint to let it look a little distressed. To start a hole in the top a small nail is hammered through the middle.
Since I don't have any fancy metal cutting tools I just had to work the hole with different metal tools until the hole was big enough for the pump.
The hole is a little ugly but it gets covered up by the pump.
Use E6000 Glue to attach the jar lid to the pump. (I stole a pump from an empty lotion bottle.)
Since I did not use special glass paint I decided to put a couple of layers on polycrylic on top to make the finish more water proof. If you have read some of my other post you may know that I am pretty fond of this stuff. I have used it on everything from shoes to paper jewelry and even as part of a faux ceramic finish for tin cans.
I decided to add one glass tile for decoration using the E6000 glue to fix it in place.
And here it is ready for use.
It kind of matches the toothbrush holder I made a while back. And it is much better the the plastic bottle that the soap came in. :-)
Happy Upcycling,
