Hello my fellow crafter's and collectors of junk.
We finally had some snow here in Colorado which makes the Christmas decorations that the city has put up on every light post look a little less ridicules. I don't mean to sound like the Grinch but I can't help but wonder what Thanksgiving feels like when everything goes straight from Creepy Orange and Black to Jolly Red and Green with only the slightest mention of turkeys and cranberry sauce.
Maybe it is my middle child mindset but I feel a little sorry for the holiday that is set aside for the simple pleasure of being thankful. It seems that each year it is more and more eclipsed by it's greedier siblings who promise bags full of sweet delights and surprises wrapped in shimmery paper. But enough of that anyway.
On to today's project. I have completed another project from my 20 T-shirt challenge.
Upcycled Squeaky Dog Bone Toys
Although these may seem self explanatory I did want to use as much t-shirt as possible and also make them as sturdy as I could since my dogs are quite hard on their toys.
I started by cutting out the dog bone shape in two different sizes. The larger size being about 1/4 inch larger all the way around.
Machine stitch the smaller layer together leaving a two inch opening to insert the t-shirt stuffing and the squeakers. I purchased the squeakers on Ebay and cut up small scraps of t-shirt for the inner stuffing.
Hand stitch the opening to seal in the stuffing. Machine stitch the outer layer with right sides together leaving the same size opening. Turn right sides out and insert the inner layer with the squeaker. Since the t-shirt stuffing is a little lumpy I decided to use actual stuffing for the outer layer of stuffing. It gave a smoother finished look and helped to fill out the shape better. Hand stitch the opening closed and repeat as desired for more toys.
Happy Upcycling,
